I undertook the design and editing of a comprehensive 114-page cookbook for the local nonprofit, Positive Community Kitchen, situated in Eugene, Oregon. With their commitment to providing nourishing weekly meals for individuals confronting life-threatening illnesses, my goal was to encapsulate the vibrancy of their mission.
In capturing the vibrancy of this nonprofit’s spirit, I curated a visual narrative characterized by a rich interplay of lively and diverse colors. The pages came alive with imagery that celebrated the raw, whole foods that constitute the heart of their culinary endeavors. To enhance usability, I integrated intuitive icons indicating the required kitchen equipment for each recipe, facilitating seamless cooking experiences.
A distinctive feature of the cookbook was the presentation of select ingredients, each occupying its own dedicated page, adorned with striking visuals and accompanied by insightful tips on storage and preparation techniques. This layout was consistently applied, with a high-quality image gracing the upper half of a page, while pertinent information resided below.
Furthermore, I am responsible for the food photography, ensuring that every image reflected the essence of the dishes. I also meticulously prepared all the print-ready files, maintaining the integrity of the design throughout the production process. This comprehensive involvement extended to overseeing the local printing, guaranteeing that the cookbook’s physical manifestation stayed true to its artistic vision.
